There was a boy who lived on a beautiful island. He took great care of his haven and even built a shelter that provided him with a sense of security.
The island, surrounded by turquoise waters, fascinated the boy, yet he harbored a deep fear of its vastness. The cold water and the myriad creatures within deterred him from taking the plunge. "It could be dangerous. Since there are small creatures in shallow water, they must be larger in the depths—bigger than me. It's too risky," he concluded.
One day, a colorful ship appeared on the horizon, laden with tempting treasures. The boy couldn't help but dream of possessing these items to enhance his confidence and safety on the island.
Although he occasionally fantasized about dipping his fingertips into the water, the memories of cold and the fear of underwater creatures held him back. Curiosity, however, eventually triumphed over fear, prompting him to brave the water. Repeating the mantra, "I'm not afraid at all," he jumped in. But panic set in as he began to sink, realizing he couldn't swim. Washed ashore, he vowed never to put himself at such risk again.
Days passed, and his fear of water grew. To protect himself, he built a wall around the island, isolating the central part from the water. Over time, neglecting the other parts led to their destruction and eventual flooding. The boy continued building walls, and his once comfortable island became cramped and confining.
He realized that safety came at the cost of feeling caged. Though he complained about his island, he adopted an attitude of resignation: "Maybe I'm not happy, but I feel safe. All I want now is peace."
What is your island? What distant ship do you long to reach?
What steps can you take to leave your comfort island and strive toward your dreams?
Before anything else, answer why you want to leave your comfort island. If you're content where you are, there's no need for change. But for those seeking to conquer fears and monsters in their heads to reach the ship of their dreams, here are some tips:
Ask yourself why? Your destination must be compelling, and you must be convinced it's what you truly want.
Make a good plan. While jumping into deep water is brave, careful preparation helps you get closer to your goal step by step.
